Beauty Solution to Nail Biting

I have to admit that I am a Nail Biter and have always been one ever since I was a little girl. The only time I remember letting my nails grow long and strong was when I was pregnant with my second son. I have to say it was pretty weird to have long nails.

I'm on a mission once again to get those long, strong nails again!! So I wanted to share some tips
with you:

  1. Save a piece of your paycheck for a weekly manicure. Having your nails properly taken care of by the pros will make you less likely to gnaw. There are places that charge like $6-$10 for a manicure. If time or cash prevents you from a weekly grooming by the pros, then opt to DIY on a weekly basis and reward yourself at the end of the month with a professional manicure.
  2. Use costly nail polishes like Chanel so each time you attempt to take a bite, you can kick yourself for biting off $$$ and letting it go down the drain!
  3. Treat your cuticles right. I have been using Sally Hansen's Vitamin E Moisturizing Nail & Cuticle Oil. I have to say, it has really tamed my cuticles! They are usually dry and I end up peeling them and breaking my skin in the process. My niece once asked me, why did I have so many cuts on my fingers!!
  4. If you're looking for speedy results, you should use something to strengthen and lengthen the nail. My favorite is Sally Hansen's Nailgrowth Miracle Salon Strength Treatment which guarantees 30% longer nails in 5 days!
So my ultimate goal is to be able to sport Minx Nails before the summer is out! Wish me luck!!

Women's Health Daily Dose: Get Flawless Skin

This article is courtesy of Women's Health Daily Dose...

Beauty isn't measured only by the fullness of your lips or the swing of your hair. A recent study found that smooth, even skin tone is also a key marker of attractiveness. It make's sense: Flawless skin represents youth and health, while brown patched, ruddiness, and other discolorations can have a pretty nasty aging effect.

Could your skin use a beauty boost? Don't fret! We've taken an all-hands-on-deck approach to eliminating blemishes. With the help of experts, we've found out the causes - and best of all, the solutions - to the most common complexion wreckers out there.

Here are my recommendations:

Problem - When you slack on sunscreen, you can develop clusters of pigment that form freckles, light-brown patches, or mole-dark dark spots - other wise known as sun spots.

Fluhme Solution - Use ReVive Vitamin C Serum once a day in the morning, after you cleanse the face. This powerful dose of Vitamin C is your best defense against free radicals and will brighten and refine the skin. Fluhme's ReVive is infused with vitamins and powerful antioxidants Vitamins C and E to repair the skin, improve skin texture, reduce wrinkles, and protect the skin against free radicals damage.

********************************************************************************

Problem - Postflammatory hyperpigmentation in the form of red or brown discolorations - other wise known as acne mark/blemishes.

Fluhme Solution - Use ReJuvenate Brightening Day Lotion once a day in the morning, after you cleanse the face and after you apply ReVive Vitamin C Serum. This lightweight moisturizer, rejuvenates dull, dry skin and absorbs quickly into the skin leaving the skin feeling fully hydrated. It has Derma White which brightens and lightens the blemishes (without bleaching the skin) in 8 weeks or less.

Red, White, & Blue Weekend

Fourth of July Makeup Looks
4th_of_july_makeup_and_hairstyle_ideas_go_red_white_and_blue_on_the_4th

Cue up the BBQ and the sexy denim cut-offs—the Fourth of July is upon us and we’ve got some fun beauty ideas to help you create some serious fireworks everywhere you go. Easy fourth of July makeup and hairstyles can be created in mere minutes, or try them on in our virtual styling studio.

In the mood to break out the hot red lips? Create a Fourth of July daytime makeup look by opting for a sheer, dewy red lipstick (it's fresh and youthful looking) rather than a matte red, which is more appropriate for evening. As a general rule of thumb, you want to keep your eye makeup on the light side when rocking a bright red pout. A bit of eyeliner and mascara is all you need. Pack some smoky eye shadows and an all-purpose eye makeup brush in your bag if you want to change up your look after dusk, just in time for a sultry fireworks show.

Bouts of eyelash envy are bound to strike during Fourth of July pool parties—usually in the company of women who were born with lush fringe and like to flaunt it by being the first to dive into the water without makeup. Fake equally luscious lashes with a semi-permanent lash tint made to linger for 24 hours or more. One application should withstand swimming, showering and partying better than most mascaras. It’s a must for occasions when you’re spending the night at his place. Try these: Tarte 4 Day Stay Lash Stain, Jemma Kidd Lasting Tint Semi-Permanent Waterproof Lash Color.

Red, white and blue makeup is fun to rock on the 4th of July, but other bright makeup colors have a place in your makeup bag too (don’t forget to pack them in your purse for touch-ups). Go for bold in seaweed green eyeliner or indigo mascara instead of the usual brown and black. A hot pink eye shadow can make your eyes look bright and beautiful (caution: too much on your lower lashline and you could wind up looking like you have seasonal allergies). Blending bright colors on the back of your hand before applying them to your lids will prevent them from overpowering your face. Try these: Mac Eye Shadow in Passionate, Yves Saint Laurent Eyeliner MoirĂ© in Emerald Reflection, Urban Decay Big Fatty Colored Mascara in Indigo.

To create a sexy Fourth of July mood with your hair, create low, luscious pig tails. Gather the hair on each side of your head, creating an even part down the back (use a fine tooth comb). Take a large barrel curling iron to 2-inch wide sections of hair to create bounce and fullness. Tie the pigtails with red, white or blue ribbon for a festive effect. --Stephanie Simons

Get Makeup-Optional Skin

I wanted to share what I recently read in my Health Savvy magazine from Virtua Hospital. My comments are in purple :)

As we age, we begin to notice things we don't love about our skin: discolorations, larger pores, fine lines. What can we do, beside getting rid of those nagging magnification mirrors?

"Changes in the skin tone and pore size are the results of the natural aging process and the environments," says Bennett Schwartz, MD, Virtua dermatologist.

Dr. Schwartz says that healthy skin results from drinking plenty of fluids, not smoking, eating healthy, and sleeping enough and avoiding excessive sun exposure."

"Women's hormonal changes can also have significant effects on skin, especially around menopause" says Dr. Schwartz. And, this new skin may mean a new skin care regimen. That's what I can say I love about Fluhme Skin 365! It's an all year round regimen. The only thing you switch or alternate is the ReNew R (Retinol) and ReNew G (Glycolic Acid). It is recommended to switch every 3 months for maximum results.

Tara Ammon is an aesthetician with vir tu, Virtua's spa located in the Health and Wellness Center in Washington Township. She says: "If you were always oily and suddenly you're dry, the skin care routine you've spent a lifetime perfecting doesn't apply, and the products you loved now don't work anymore." She says a consultation with an aesthetician can teach you which products are right for your skin type. How often do you get a facial? Believe it or not, I've only gotten about 4 facials in my entire life!! I always found that my pores are even more visible after a facial and my face tends to be so red. Even though I have to admit, the facial is soooo relaxing!

See your dermatologist, who will evaluate your skin appearance and growths. He or she will look for any precancerous or cancerous spots and give you an assessment of your skin condition. I find this to be so important!! I always thought you should only go to the dermatologist for acne or an abnormal rash...it's almost like you should make a dermatologist appointment a regular routine, especially if you're in the sun a lot, just to keep tabs on any abnormal or not-so-ordinary skin blemish.

Remember, there are many spa options in skin care or you could always have an in-home spa party and enjoy a fun night of skin pampering with the girls!

Are you born with great skin?

Some of us are born with great skin - it's in our genes - while the rest of us have to work at having flawless skin.

In recent years, I've received numerous compliments on how healthy and glowing my skin appears and how I have great skin tone.

Believe it or not, I didn't always have great skin. I started getting serious acne in middle school. I remember in the 7th grade, I was on the yellow cheese bus on my way to school and a boy (someone who hardly said anything to me) approached me out of the blue and said, "You know, people used to call me pizza face. What I did was wipe my face every night with alcohol and it cleared up my face. You should try it." I almost died. I was so embarassed. I knew my skin was bad but geez, I didn't need someone to tell me!

I wish I could show you a picture but I packed those horrible pictures of my acne days too far down the boxes in the basement.

I continued to have bad acne until about the age of 17. Until that point, I tried everything - alcohol (yes, I gave it a try! I had nothing to lose!), Biore, Noxema, Clearasil - you name it, I tried it. I even drank adequate water and avoided chocolate and soda. It didn't work. I actually found that when I had a little chocolate and soda, it helped keep the acne away.

So what happened at age 17? My older sister tool me with her to get a facial. I can't remember the woman's last name, but her first name is Gladys. She was in NY somewhere - I can't remember exactly where. She was promoting her own skin care line with a cleanser that had glycolic acid - a fruit acid. Using the recommended beauty regime, it kept the acne under control.

So how's my skin now? Almost perfect! Prior to finding Fluhme, I used skincare products specific for my skin type. During the summer, my skin is very oily but in the winter I tend to get very dry, especially around the nose area. It was cumbersome to constantly change products. Most of the time I didn't. I would wait until I ran out of what I was currently using.

I am ecstatic that Fluhme's products are all year round and for all skin types. The cleanser also doubles up as a makeup remover so that eliminates me purchasing a separate item. I'm all about having multiple uses for a single product!

SO here's my skin now:
